Christian Iddon. Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Brands Hatch, 22.7.18

Christian Iddon, from Stockport, brought home more important points as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship left Brands Hatch, for the second of three visits to the Kent venue in 2018. Claiming 5th and 6th places for the TYCO BMW team.

Free practice one on Friday saw Christian sixth fastest, just four-tenths shy of the quickest time of Glenn Irwin, and two-tenths ahead of TYCO BMW teammate Michael Laverty. With rain falling ahead of free practice two the outcome of any times was pretty meaningless, as only twelve of the Series’ riders took to the track in ‘damp’ conditions. Iddon, just six-tenths off, held up TYCO honours in free practice three, and went on to put his BMW S1000RR seventh on the grid for race one.

A mega start saw the former Supermoto Champion run briefly as high as second place in race one, pole position man, Glenn Irwin claiming second back from Iddon while Leon Haslam came through with seven laps to go, leaving Christian fifth at the finish.

Starting from the second row of the grid for race two, Iddon briefly dropped to seventh off the start but climbed to fifth, five laps later. Tarran Mackenzie claimed a place from Christian on lap eleven, and that’s how it would finish at the flag, Iddon in sixth.

Christian added;
It’s been another fairly solid weekend with two top six finishes. It was good in terms of the championship fight as we took some points away from some of our showdown rivals so that was good, but at the moment we are just taking little bits of points away and we really need to start aiming for the higher positions and taking larger points margins.

I feel like we are getting the most out of the package at the moment and as a team we can be proud of that. All weekend we kept our head down, kept working and that’s the plan for the rest of the year.

We will just do everything that we can to get best out of every session, every corner and every lap and hopefully secure that showdown spot.

Christian now heads to Suzuka in Japan where he will be competing in the latest round of the Endurance World Championship.

The British Superbike Championship is back in action at Thruxton, in Hampshire, over the weekend of the 3-5 August.
