Visiontrack Ducati racer, Christian Iddon is in a great position as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship enters the ‘Showdown’ period of the season. The Stockport rider sitting third of the eight riders who now get a shot at the overall 2021 Title.
Iddon converted a modest starting position, tenth on the grid, in to a podium in Race One around Silverstone’s National layout. Climbing to sixth position in the opening two laps, a brief safety car period halted his charge temporarily. The former Supermoto Champion claiming another two places shortly after the restart. By lap nine Christian was comfortably settled in to fourth spot, as a red flag on the final lap promoted him to second at the finish.
Iddon started fifth in Race Two, and was well in contention for another podium spot when contact with another rider led to a big moment that dropped him out of the leading group. Settling in to seventh place by lap fourteen, Christian would remain there until the finish.
Race Three was red flagged with fluid on the circuit, and starting twelfth at the restart, a great opening lap saw Iddon up to eighth. There was a brief foray up to fourth spot by lap seven, but Christian would settle for sixth at the flag and, more importantly, third place in the ‘Showdown’ title race.
Christian said; “I struggled in the early part of the weekend, didn’t really get going again until Qualifying.
“Qualifying wasn’t fantastic as in position on the grid, but it was when I began to gel with the bike.
“The first Race we finished second, which was great, from the fourth row of the grid. It was a fantastic result, great to be back on the podium. Starting to feel well with the bike again.
“For the first of Sunday’s races we’d changed the bike, and I’d lost a lot of sensation with it. Our tyre life dropped off dramatically compared to what we’d had previously. But we were still in podium contention when a collision with another rider caused me to have a very large moment which thankfully we got away with, but it dropped me out of the group and I wasn’t able to fight for the podium.
“In the final Race we reverted back to the previous settings, I immediately felt much more racy, got caught out just a touch with a cold tyre on lap one and ended up on the wrong side of a rider who hadn’t seen me, it wasn’t their fault but I got ran out of track, I was off twice in first couple of laps an dropped back to fourteenth.
“[After the red flag] at the restart, I managed to drag my way forwards and finish sixth. It was a little bit of a frustrating way to end the weekend because I definitely think there was a podium on the cards. But myself and Tommy Bridewell [Ducati] had a little bit of argy-bargy and it cost us a little bit too much time which was a shame as I think there really was a podium chance which would have rounded it off nicely.
“We made big strides compared to last year at Silverstone and I’m feeling good running in to the Showdown. It’s all to play for. It’s a super strong line-up, the top eight riders, we know it’s going to be difficult, we’ll give it our best as we always do.
“A big thank you to all of my sponsors and supporters who have assisted me to get to this point, we now have a one-month run to the finish. Let’s see how we get on.”

Visiontrack Ducati rider Christian Iddon claimed his place in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship’s ‘Showdown’ section of the season. Meaning he’ll be one of the 2021 title fighters.
Christian, from Stockport, was left with a mountain to climb when he took a tumble on the opening lap of Race One at Snetterton in Norfolk at the weekend. Iddon, left back in seventeenth place on the grid in Race Two, having not set a lap time in Race One, claimed eleventh place in Race Two.
Race Three saw Christian climb six places to finish fifth despite a red-flag stoppage as several rider fell as a result of Danny Buchan’s [BMW] bike went down on it’s own fluid.
The resulting points left Christian fourth in the Championship standings and with enough points to claim a Showdown spot with a round to spare.
Christian said; “Not my best weekend, I never though I’d be so happy to finish fifth. Really from the very first lap of Free Practice One it seemed like it just wasn’t at the races and that made it hard for the team to set the bike up well. I think we just got a little bit lost, and things just snowballed from there.
“Went in to the first Race and chose to use the harder of the two option tyres and it caught me out on the first lap, which was really, really disappointing. It just went from underneath me, absolutely no warning and I was dumped on my backside.
“Second Race we again opted for the harder tyre. Simply because we didn’t have the data to know if the soft one was going to last the distance. It was a struggle of a Race. I got a reasonable start, moved up from seventeenth, and at one point was just about inside the top ten, but I lost a lot of feeling with the bike from half distance and I struggled to maintain the pace.
“In the last Race we chose to go for the soft option tyre. I had a pretty good Race, I tried to be aggressive on the first few laps and that worked, then the red flags came out and we were down for a five-lap dash. A podium was on the cards, but after the weekend we’d had I rode just to get a solid finish.
“It’s fantastic to be confirmed in the Showdown, we still have Silverstone to go until the Showdown starts for real. [Silverstone] typically not an easy track for the Ducati but I’m really looking forward to trying to turning that around.”
